Yin and Yang, the two opposing principles in nature, the former feminine and negative and the latter masculine and positive. “False or true” is one kind of style from yin yang. True means positive, substance, the real existence, which shows the reality of the world. But false means empty; it shows the rest of those already existing substance. In oriental philosophy, false always shows the deep meaning and cryptic hint of the space and time. As the Chinese painting, negative space shows the endless time, the emotion, and the imagination.
When this concept comes to the chess design, iAN Yen put the false and true into the opposed competitor which shows an interesting and meaningful shape. The false and true parts match with the same shape but different construction. The “true” side shows the pure shape of the meaning, but the “false” side shows the contrary part with the empty “true” shape inside. When playing the game, when the “false” faces the “true”, it presents a new vision of world outlooks beyond the match. As the meaning of the word “match”, it shows the one who compete with you but in another meaning, it shows the one who accompany with you.
