Combining thermoforming and expanding polyurethane foam allows for organic curves in a strong and lightweight body, The Bruce stool juxtaposes strength and weight by filling an acrylic shell with expanding foam to provide support for the legs and the seat of the stool.
Topping the seat with felt creates a durable a soft surface to top the seat with. As well the felt acts as a light weight cushion for the stool.
Aluminium pipe is inserted into the wooden legs to provide support and stability for the wooden legs. The wooden legs are held into the acrylic shell with the expanding foam.
The one step process to secure the wooden legs and the aluminium pipe allows for a simplification of construction and reduction in the amount of parts needed to construct the stool.
The Bruce stool is a simple and light weight stool that introduces multiple materials that each bring their own unique strengths to the stool. In combining these materials the stool can remain extremely strong, while being durable, lightweight and comfortable.
