Our office designed two types of soft pieces of furniture especially for the new mediatheque of the French school in the Hague in the Netherlands. The idea to combine comfortable seating with magazine stands in a solid object arose initially from cost reduction. It was simply more economical to design and produce these pieces rather than to buy separate sofas and magazine stands.
With their bright colors they contrast deliberately with the calm and natural tone of the interior design. Apart from the storage compartments in the lower section, these Chaises Livres are made entirely of foam with a strong Polyurethane coating.
It was the explicit wish of the client to make an inviting study environment. These objects contribute greatly to that ambition with their happy appearance and functionality.
Many variations in shape and colour are possible for these sturdy objects. Besides education use, the designers see possibilities for lobbies and in corporate interiors.
