UNIQUENESS OF WOOD AND GRAPHIC LANGUAGE IN ONE PRODUCT. DOTE BY FLORIANA PASTORE.
“For the improvement of wooden essences, the immediate communication of FSC mark and the easy production” a little trunk had been awarded by ADI’I – Industrial Design Association Innovation Atelier Italy. The award ceremony took place last October the 5th at the end of the first Italian edition of FSC design award, in the fairy scenography of the nineteenth century Acquario Romano, now Casa dell’Architettura (Rome).
The designer is Floriana Pastore, the awarded project “Dote”.
The name of the product refers to the Italian tradition that joins the preciousness and the toughness of a container-box to the wealth of its content. Dote concept therefore bases on the functional aesthetics.
The contemporary industrial production seems had flatten the differences among materials so consumers can’t recognize them anymore. Very often our furniture is made of wood but rarely we know exactly the kind. Straightly at once Dote shows what it’s made of. Birch tree, beech, pine, oak, black walnut, cherry tree are some of FSC certificate essences proposed for the trunk production. In this project each kind of wood keeps its unique pattern and along with an info graphic it describes the characteristics of the material used. The shape of the tree and its name (in latin, Italian and english) on four sides of the box tell us an illustrated story of the object.
The wood-graphic matching is endless: it represents the ability of design to truly communicate the authenticity of absolutely unique materials.
