Echo table by UUfie

“echo” table series envision an elusive reality of nature where metal and wood become one. It is part of the studio’s ongoing design exploration of pushing the boundaries and altering the perception of materials. The beauty of wood is that it can tell a story of history while metal’s beauty is expressed through its malleability. By using a technique of exposing the hardwood (season of winter) and removing the soft wood (season of summer) to forge metal into each growth cycle, a new-found singular material is created. The lightness and thinness of the table top and legs further enhance the intangible appearance.

Each of the tables is made from a composite of wood that tapers out at the edges and blends into metal. The table tops are made in three different sizes and rest on slender legs that emphasize a slightly curved bottom and narrow section in the middle. The variations in the table top render shapes that are organic, allowing activity and motion around the table to be natural in any space.

The tables are made of aluminum, copper, and brass, and feature contrasting gradients of colour as a result. “echo” was presented at Spazio Rossana Orlandi – Milan Design Week 2017.
