I just completed the Masters ID program at Pratt, and I would love to share the work I developed for my thesis. I presented a new approach to designing and building furniture called Frame and Panel, that works to create a stronger bond between consumers and products. Generating engagement through an online interface that allows users to customize their designs and then carrying the experience over into the furniture, which employs custom hardware to make it easy and fun to assemble.
I wanted to find a way to bring some of the agency that people experience in the digital realm into the physical world of objects they live with. To that end, I have emphasized the materiality of the pieces by using interesting combinations of largely natural materials (wood, felt, cotton fabric, cord and powder coated steel) in forms that evoke a traditional craft aesthetic.
