Main idea behind the work was to highlight the airport’s focus on sustainability and the creativity that can be found in the region.
T-shirt chair is an Green Furniture Award winning project designed by Maria Westerberg. Series is made for waiting areas as lobbies, malls, airports, central stations.
Furniture is woven from left-over fabric in the form of reused jackets. T-shirt chair looks like a large rag rug. Every chair has its own unique color and texture combination. The textiles can be individually replaced with worn clothes and textiles from your surroundings, and in that way the T-shirt Chair will evolve and collect history over time- an almost “eternal” piece of furniture.

“The airport plays an important role as a hub, and we are especially pleased to be in a meeting place that showcases our talented entrepreneurs and companies in the region. Now our passengers can experience an atmosphere that is both stylish and sustainable when they are headed off on a journey,” says Susanne Norman, airport director at Åre Östersund Airport.

“This is the first time I experience that people are emotionally engaged by a public interior – travellers enter and spontaneously call out ‘Wow!’” Magnus Trense, Marketing Manager Åre Östersund Airport
