Mio Karo introduces luxury textiles inspired by traditional motifs and hand made in Sardinia. The Mio Karo collection includes rugs, wall-hanging and cushions, all produced with a particular care to technique and details, using the finest materials such as wool from local sheep, silk and cotton. The first collection Four Seasons, is characterised by the pibiones weaving technique, most commonly found in the central and eastern areas of Sardinia. This is a particular type of stitched relief, created from the countless grains that make up the design. These are made by twisting the yarn around a needle which is arranged in a horizontal position on the loom; the needle is then pulled away, thereby creating a raised effect (grains). Operated entirely by hand, including the slay mechanism, i.e. the working phase effected by a complicated mechanism moved by the hands and feet which tightens the weft yarns one against the other once they have passed over the pin. The pibiones technique was used in antiquity only for the best hand-woven bed covers âsa faonaâ and for household articles such as curtains, fabrics, cushions and tablecloths. Each piece is made to order and numbered. A bespoken service is also available. Delivery worldwide.
Mio Karo is a project by Carolina Melis, creative director of the brand. Carolina comes from a background in film, design and animation and first came across the world of weaving with the short animated film Le fiamme di Nule.
Mio Karo is now opening in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, at the Promenade du Port in the heart of luxury design and art, next to the likes of gallery Fumi London and Rossana Orlandi.
