Mantis is a modern task lamp that mixes classic figured hardwood with machined stainless steel.
The wooden parts act as insulators and are CNC machined from highly figured hardwood (in this case teak). The conductive parts are all Stainless steel apart from Brass contacts in the sliding mechanism. The lamp is fully adjustable while still providing power to the lamp head.
The consumer has a choice of sustainably sourced hardwoods for the Insulator parts. The light source is a 3w warm white LED. All parts are machined from hardwood, stainless steel and brass.
The lamp is currently in the Delight In Light competition run by the Lighting Association in the UK. The lamp is on the competition’s website (http://delightinlight.org/portfolio/henry-daly-mantis/) and also an Irish blog called Broadsheet.ie (http://www.broadsheet.ie/2013/07/22/i-love-irish-lamp/).
