Taking inspiration from the works of Ruth Asawa and Isamu Noguchi, the Mayu collection for Object Future III explores a contemporary take on traditional shade making to experiment with sculptural form, opacity and light.
Embodying the ephemeral and delicate, Mayu is a series of forms evocative of another place, glowing with a welcoming allure and foreign beauty. The works embody concepts of dislocation, layering and transparency through nested volumes encasing and revealing both space and light.
Each Mayu pendant is crafted by hand and presents a step in an emergent process, from the smaller initial experiments, towards the larger sculptural forms. As a discourse of possibility, the collective series presents the experimental workings towards a considered, contemporary lighting collection with a delicate permanence and crafted longevity.
