One can make a lot out of vintage sunglasses – thought the team of Bureau Purée from Zurich, descending to the basement of the swiss spectacles designer götti SWITZERLAND. Inspired by the multicolored lenses, translucent acetate rims and sophisticated metal frames, they picked up some boxes and created a 4.5m long chandelier for the designer’s 20th anniversary.
A delicate metal spiral is the base for 541 sunglasses hanged carefully side by side. The unique cover creates a crystal-like effect that reminds of sparkling jewels and glamour rather then old sunglasses. For the frame designer Sven Götti is the chandelier more then just a lighting device: “It is a shining retrospective of two decades in frame design. Unbelievable what we created in this time.”
The chandelier was exhibit last week at the international eyewear show MIDO in Milan and the next stop will be the eyewear show in New York from 26-30 march 2014.
