The Survivor Collection of home wares are made from recycled New Zealand timber and are based on an existing technique used by survivalists while tramping or hunting in wilderness. Hot coals are held against the surface of the wood, then blown on. The heat creates a perfect bowl shape, leaving a beautiful coal patina. This is then sealed with a food grade bio resin.
The combination of a self forming technique combined with modernist proportion and form makes an interesting desirable design item.
The name Survivor Collection is both alluding to the process used to form the bowls and as a metaphor for the recycled New Zealand timber as a surviving material and surviving object.
