The series of heart shaped ceramic vases is designed to evoke a feeling of compassion with involving slip casting process .The mould consists of seven different parts.A hand crafted plaster model was used to create the original pattern.
inspiration for new products and design thinking come in many different ways, as designers this insight is often fuelled by new materials, physical experiences or exposure to new manufacturing or making processes. Building an affinity with a material and fully understanding the making/ manufacturing process is critically important to the success of any product be it an injection moulded mass manufactured toy or wooden batch manufactured CNC chair.
The ceramic slip casting process is a unique and cost effective way to manufacture from one offs to a Million artefacts. This flexibility allows unusual scope for the designer who is usually restricted by the decision between product quantities and manufacturing process. This project builds awareness between process and product numbers and the associated materials available.
