The Design Deck is a deck of playing cards that doubles as practical guide to graphic design.
The Design Deck contains distilled, essential information about the practice of graphic design, including information on typography, design principals, history, quotes, important designers, and design movements. Each of the 52 faces has a piece of useful design information, complete with a visual example, combining to create a well-rounded, thorough examination of the subject.
Its aim is to teach the general public more about the art of graphic design. I think we are approaching a time of graphic design enlightenment, but there aren’t many resources that allow people to learn the what goes into good design. I thought I would take advantage of the current popularity of well-designed playing cards and create a deck that lets people know more about what makes the cards they are playing with so attractive.
As far as the design of the deck itself, I am using simple geometric shapes, warm colours, and subtle patterns to create an elegant deck that engages the user but doesn’t distract from the content of the cards.
The typefaces I am using are DIN Pro, and Adobe Garamond.
