The work desk was designed by Svingen Arkitektkontor to a specific place in a shared workspace in Oslo, Norway. As architects we are used to work with a specific site and let that impact the design we are working on. We wanted a stable desk, but at the same time a feeling of lightness. The way it is constructed is inspired by the stacking of lumber when its air-drying.
It has a light feeling, but is at the same time very stable to work on. It is a simple construction that is easy to read. The desk is made of untreated pine wood and plywood covered with linoleum. The colour was selected to make a contrast between the wood structure and the surface, to really emphasize the lightness.
When you approach the desk the first thing you notice is the constructive elements. Then when you sit down you become aware of the thin layer of linoleum in the section of the work desk plate. The paradox between the lightness and stableness will generate a feeling of freshness and pleasure.
