I am Martin Saar, a recent furniture & product design graduate from London and I would like to share one of my projects which is called dos-à-dos.

dos-à-dos, meaning back-to-back, is a children`s rocking chair that is inspired by the famous tête-à-tête chairs from the 18th century. It is meant to encourage interaction and direct communication that seems to be disappearing these days. It is made of layered up CNC cut 18mm birch plywood and treated with clear beeswax. dos-à-dos is 600mm tall, 653mm wide and 234mm deep and suitable for 5-10 year olds. The hollow design gives it a lightweight feel while still maintaing a strong stucture thanks to the unified form and strength plywood. The entire structure is glued together using furniture grade PVA and dowels that also give a very contrast to the outside surface. The children`s rocker can also be used as an occasional stool for adults when turned upside down or when the backrest is used as a seat.

I am currently looking for manufacturers and retailers.

I will be exhibiting at New Designers 2012 part 2 in July at the Bucks New University stand.

Best Regards from England,
Martin Saar
