Pioneer of the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Brancott Estate in New Zealand recently announced a collaboration with designer and founder of Studio Dror, Dror Benshetrit. Dror was invited to translate the Brancott Estate story and spirit through design. One of the results, following an immersive visit to New Zealand, is a wine rack called “Present”. MOCO LOCO was sent a first-run limited edition Present (literally and figuratively) and herein is the unboxing of the very sculpture-like wine rack. Its name is actually a nod to the in-the-moment ritual of opening and enjoying a bottle of wine.
The rack is architectural and very efficient. It folds flat and requires no assembly. A simple pull will expand the rack from two dimensions to a three dimensional structure that easily holds up to six wine bottles. Once expanded, Present is surprisingly solid and stable – an important consideration for wine lovers.
Present is in fact a small scale interpretation of a permanent, site-specific installation created by Dror, titled Under/standing, which will be unveiled at the Brancott Vineyard in 2016.
We haven’t tried the Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc, but we plan to.
