These lights were made from real trees cut down because they were either dying or were growing in an unwanted area (in this case, too close to a fence). But, the concept can be achieved with just about any naturally fallen tree which is what I plan to do for the next installation. In this piece, the platform (designed for a condo that overlooks the Chicago river), is half supported by the trees themselves. The light shades are molded from the branch tops and cast in an eco-friendly resin derived from tree sap. LED bulbs light the trees with only 15 watts of usage (compared to a 125 watt equivalent).
