Overlay, vases made by developing a process of overlapping resin and terracotta clay. Overlay is a method of investigation used to discover what happens when two materials which are diametrically opposite in their characteristics are mixed.
“When Cotto involved me in the project ‘Another Detail’, I found it interesting to choose and compare two very different materials in order to achieve that unexpected detail which the brief required. So I devised a technique to work the resin just as a potter works clay on the wheel. “
Terracotta has a porous surface and natural tones. Resin is a synthetic material and its transparency makes it sophisticated. So each of the two materials in combination enriches the other, exalting its peculiarities.
Once the terracotta vase is made, it is wrapped in a layer of resin which infiltrates the surface, highlighting its texture.
