It’s a site specific temporary installation designed for NYC Design Week’s French Design Connection exhibition which took place at the Chambers Hotel. The exhibition was held in the hotel’s lobby and mezzanine. Rattan Cocoon created a visual link to connect both floors and escort the visitor from the lobby to the mezzanine. Rattan Cocoon is a structure created around the staircase which thus became for a short while a rattan tunnel. Rattan is a material typical from the american furniture industry which was used in particular for deck furniture and baskets, commonly seen in the beach houses. The project required the use of one mile of rattan wood which was wet before being wrapped around the staircase. The project was made possible thanks to the Consulate General of Switzerland in NY.

(published on facebook and material was also sent to a few other blogs at the same time as Mocoloco).
