My name is Mitch McGee and I am an artist from Houston, Texas. I am currently focused on a series cut from birch plywood that sits somewhere between painting and sculpture. The idea started with taking a piece of Roy Lichtenstein’s work and trying it in a new medium similar to his approach with lithography from comics. Since then I have taken the approach to original pieces. I cut, sand, stain, and assemble each piece by hand. The layered sheets of plywood create a compressed dimension that casts nice shadows and textures to the otherwise flat style of illustration.
I appreciate you taking the time to look at my work and would be honored to have it considered for MOCO LOCO.
