Scottie is based on the principle of a hot water bottle. Warmth therapy is actually one of the oldest medical treatments. Warmth stimulates blood circulation, relaxes the muscles and makes the joints more flexible.
Scottie wants to bring warmth therapy to the people without complex equipment, that emphasises their illness. The hot water bottle can only warm up part of the muscles, whilst Scottie warms up the back and upper part of the legs.
The chair is easy to use by adding hot water or connecting it to the radiator, hence the 3 small taps.
MATERIALS & PRODUCTION PROCESS
Scottie is made out of hollow steel tubes with a diameter of 10 mm for the seating and 16 mm for the sides. The chair is bent by hand, welded together and powder coated.
DUTCH DESIGN WEEK
